Putting a prettier face on the city of Washington is the objective of the 2019 Façade Improvement grant program.

The program, administered by the Washington Business District Authority, is underway. The impetus behind it is to provide funding for business and/or property owners to upgrade and update buildings in a 14-block area. WBDA encourages owners to restore storefronts and historical details, and to add or replace signage and lighting.

A total of $125,000 is available through funding from WBDA and the Washington County Local Share Account. An applicant can apply for up to $10,000.

Will Prince, Main Street manager for WBDA, said property owners view the program “as an opportunity to update their building” and “make a difference in creating a more welcoming downtown business district.”

Applications can be accessed through the authority’s website under “Business Resources” or picked up at the WBDA office at 273 S. Main St. They must be submitted by July 15. For more information, contact Prince at 724-288-7156 or will@downtownwashingtonpa.com.
