North Belle Vernon firm opening plant in Donora

A food-consulting operation that focuses on the confectionery industry will open a production facility in Donora Industrial Park.

Nutrifections, of North Belle Vernon, is launching the plant in what co-owner Michelle Schwerha calls a joint venture with Barchemy, a new company. Barchemy plans to start making chocolate coating and nutrition bars in February and be in full production in March, said Schwerha, who owns Nutrifections with her husband, Joe, a professor in charge of the Entrepreneurial Leadership Center at California University of Pennsylvania.

Michelle Schwerha said the new facility will employ about 100 when fully operational and that job interviews are under way.

The Schwerhas, who live in Speers, have operated Nutrifections for about 15 years in a 4,000-square-foot building in North Belle Vernon.
