New restaurant ready to wing it on South Main

A new restaurant is winging it to Washington.

Big Shot Bob’s House of Wings will open at 11 a.m. Monday at 201 S. Main St., in the space previously occupied by Upper Crust restaurant.

“We offer pickup, delivery and dine in – obviously,” co-owner David McComb said Thursday morning, nodding toward seats and tables on the West Maiden Street side as workers were applying finishing touches to the conversion.

BSB Wings, as each of its locations is informally and commonly known, will open at 11 seven days a week in Washington. It is a cash-only operation, but an ATM is inside.

The South Main dining spot will be the 11th BSB, 10 of which are in Southwestern Pennsylvania. (Weirton, W.Va., has the other location.) This will be the first in Washington County and, according to McComb, the third to launch in three weeks.

McComb said BSB’s chicken wings are distinctive in that each “is cooked fresh for about 18 to 22 minutes. (Other restaurants) usually pre-cook them.”

Big Shot Bob’s launched in 2007 in Avalon and opened its second site in Coraopolis in 2010. It has grown since, and has established a reputation.

In an article last April, Esquire magazine selected “The Best Wing Spot in Every State.” The publication said it “identified places on Yelp with a large number of reviews raving about wings, and then ranked those spots using a variety of factors.”

BSB was numero uno in the Keystone State.

McComb said Big Shot Bob’s has about 200 sauce flavors and offers more than wings. “We have a menu that’s pretty intense. We also have hoagies, burgers, sandwiches and salads.”

The Washington location could become a favorite among some Washington & Jefferson College students. McComb plans to have a W&J Night once a week, offering 10 to 15 percent off orders with a college ID.

BSB’s newest site will be open until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 p.m. Sunday. The phone is 724-993-4102.
