MEI opens Houston showroom, plans second building

McCutcheon Enterprises Inc. officially opened an equipment showroom Wednesday, aimed at a wide customer base that includes the oil and gas and construction industries, as well as area homeowners.

Company officials also noted they will build a second adjacent building just behind the new structure at 23 W. Pike St. for maintenance of its rental equipment and its fleet of trucks.

In addition to the showroom, which features both equipment and safety clothing, the new building contains MEI’s hydraulic hose repair shop with a new sales and inventory area for the category.

The company’s equipment rentals include products from major companies, including Husqvarna, Gehl, Wacker Neuson and Ryco.

MEI opened its Houston operation in 2013, renting space at 101 W. Pike St., later acquiring the property for its new site.

“In three years, this is what can happen,” said MEI Executive Manager Nate McCutcheon. “We’ve come a long way, about 60 feet,” he joked.

But public officials who attended Thursday’s opening noted the importance of a family business locating and expanding on Houston’s main thoroughfare.

“A family-run business is what it’s all about,” said Washington County commissioner Larry Maggi.

Founded in 1947, MEI is a third-generation family owned and operated company specializing in equipment sales/rental, hydraulic and complete waste management solutions across several industrial sectors.

MEI is based in Apollo, where it operates a 58,000 square-foot treatment facility that can handle solid, semisolid and liquid wastes from a range of industries.
