EQM proposes new gas pipeline through Washington County

Natural-gas processor EQM wants to build almost 17 miles of new pipeline through Washington County to transport natural gas to a proposed power plant in Brooke County, West Virginia.

EQM said in disclosures to shareholders it expects the pipeline project – known as the Tri-State Corridor – to cost $80 million. It’s aiming to bring the it online in mid-2022.

A letter EQM subsidiary Equitrans sent out late in May said the company was getting ready to file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build the 16.7 miles of 16-inch line.

Documents filed with the commission in 2017 showed legs of the project starting at processing facilities in Smith Township and ending at the proposed plant just over the state line in the Northern Panhandle.

EQM told investors earlier this year that it had executed a 10-year agreement with Energy Consortium Solutions’ subsidiary Brooke County Power for a pipeline capacity of 140 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

EQM said it would notify affected landowners of its plans in a letter following the filing of its FERC application.
