Dunkin’ coming to Street at the Meadows

Dunkin’ Donuts did not have a presence in Washington County a year ago. It now has a growing one.

Mike Zappone, marketing manager for Heartland Restaurant Group, franchisee for Dunkin’ in Southwestern Pennsylvania, said Friday the popular doughnut/coffee shop will locate in the Street at the Meadows project off Racetrack Road in North Strabane Township. Dunkin’ will go into a building that will be constructed to the right of Primanti Bros. Restaurant, as viewed from Racetrack Road. Primanti opened in its own outparcel last fall.

Nate Tovornik, spokesman for Horizon Properties, developer of the Street project, confirmed a deal was signed for Dunkin’ Donuts. He said there will be space in that building for a second tenant.

Construction hasn’t begun. Zappone estimated a November opening.

“We’re looking forward to being there,” he said.

Washington County was once home to the Dunkin’ brand, but those locations closed and none opened for several years. Then, on May 4, 2015, Heartland opened a shop in Canonsburg on Cavasina Drive.

By the end of 2016, the county may have four. Two others are planned.

One will be going into the former Eat ’n Park at 3528 Washington Road in Peters Township, which gave way to a state-of-the-art Eat’n Park a quarter-mile to the north on that highway. As of Friday, the old restaurant was mostly razed.

That Dunkin’, according to Zappone, has a September target for opening.

And after previously rejecting the project, South Strabane Township officials approved a Dunkin’ at Murtland Avenue and Raymond Boulevard, near AAA Travel Agency. Work hasn’t begun, but Zappone anticipates a November or December launch.

Just across the Washington-Allegheny County line, work is under way on another new shop. It is at 145 McMurray Road in Upper St. Clair, with an early June opening forecast.
