Columbia Gas to replace Speers pipelines

A natural gas supplier will invest $2.8 million to replace its pipelines in the Mon Valley borough of Speers.

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania will begin the work this month in the borough’s Grandview and Upper Speers neighborhoods, the company announced Monday.

The customers in the those areas will experience temporary service disruptions, and Columbia Gas will contact them personally to schedule the restoration of gas to their houses, company spokeswoman Sarah Perry said.

“Customers will have their indoor meters relocated to the outside of the premises and their service lines replaced if needed,” she said in a news release.

The project is being performed at no additional cost to customers.

The company reminds its customers that all of their workers have photo identification badges identifying them as Columbia Gas employees or contractors.

Columbia Gas has invested $1.1 billion to modernize its distribution system in Pennsylvania since 2007, the company said.

The work in Grandview will be performed on Route 88, Grandview Way and Maple Terrace, and Boltz, Schafer, Arlington, Linden and Hillcrest avenues. It will involve replacing nearly 5,500 feet of existing pipe with plastic lines by the end of the year.

In Upper Speers, the work will be performed along Phillips, State, Crest, Scott, Lillian and Rebecca streets. It will involve replacing another 5,500 feet of pipe by midsummer.
