Chase entering Washington County

The nation’s biggest bank’s southwestern Pennsylvania retail strategy is going beyond Allegheny County.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. plans to open a branch in Washington County, a regulatory filing revealed.

Chase’s Donaldson Crossroads branch would be located at the intersection of Washington Road and East McMurray Road, according to the filing with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Chase (NYSE:JPM) declined comment.

So far, it has confirmed seven sites in the region, the first of which, in One Oxford Centre in downtown Pittsburgh, is to open in late October.

But, like Bank of America Corp., the other big newcomer to the region’s consumer banking ranks, Chase’s activity thus far has chiefly centered on Pittsburgh. Neither has said how many branches are planned for southwestern Pennsylvania.

BofA expects to have 12 open by the end of November.

Based in New York, Chase is the nation’s largest bank according to assets, which are $2.7 trillion, and it ranks second to Wells Fargo & Co. for the most branches with 5,193.

Chase has said it typically employs five to seven people per branch.
