Coffee and Commerce
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, or SPC, is the region's forum for collaboration, planning, and public decision-making. The SPC is responsible for planning and prioritizing the use of all state and federal transportation funds allocated to the region. The Commission has the authority and responsibility to make decisions affecting a 10-county region, including Washington County.
Formed in 1989, as a public-private partnership, the Washington County Council on Economic Development began to address the economic problems faced by Washington County as the result of an exodus of major industry which was once the region’s lifeblood. Over the past 27 plus years, the Council has invested in over 425 start-ups and small growing business ventures, helping to create or maintain over 3,635 life-sustaining wage jobs in our region.
