Many community, municipal, county and state parks are open year round. There are plenty of sports activities - participatory and spectator alike - as well as cultural and historical celebrations, special events and festivals. Canonsburg Town Park, Charleroi Trustee Community Park and Monongahela Chess Park are attractive examples of the way each borough and township around the county make every effort to provide green public space for the enjoyment of their residents. Peters Township's Arrowhead Trail is a four-mile hard-surface environmental corridor for cyclists, joggers and pedestrians to enjoy placid wooded areas and a protected thoroughfare across the Township. Peterswood Park, also located in Peters Township, encompasses 86 acres of passive and active recreation areas, including an outdoor stage. Washington Park includes ball fields, basketball courts and a swimming pool, in addition to nature trails and pavilions and a log cabin for picnicking.

Washington County possesses three gorgeous county park facilities: Mingo Creek, Cross Creek and Ten Mile Creek Parks. Mingo and Cross Creek parks are open all year and are home to three covered bridges.

Cross Creek Park (3,500 acres) is located off Route 50 near Rea and includes a quality 258-acre fishing lake. Great fishing is well known to the area and hunting is also permitted. Users with special needs will find a designated dock that allows fishing at the launch area. Picnic shelters and playground areas make this park popular throughout the area. One covered bridge (Wilson) is located in Cross Creek Park. Ample parking is available.

Mingo Creek Park (2,600 acres) can be accessed off Route 136, 12 miles east of the City of Washington. This park is a great family facility with picnic shelters, playground areas and ballfields. Mingo Creek meanders through the park and two covered bridges (Ebenezer & Henry) span the creek. Horse enthusiasts can enjoy 15 miles of bridle trails. Bicycle riders and hikers also have designated areas. Annual events at the park include nature walks, hayrides, day camps, needle and yarn workshops, arts and crafts and the popular Covered Bridge Festival.

Ten Mile Creek Park (22 acres) provides boat access to the Monongahela River. It is located off Route 88 near Fredericktown. A boat launch and ample parking create a great facility for fishermen and boaters. Picnic shelters are also available.

There are approximately 6,000 acres of park land in Washington County offering picnic shelters, nature, bicycle and bridle trails, hunting and fishing, as well as recreational programs and special events.

For more information on any of these County parks contact: Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation, 724.228.6867.

The city of Washington owns and operates the Washington Park. The park offers an Olympic size pool with a waterslide, playground equipment, picnic tables and grills.
