The region's top private companies ranked by revenue

Despite a decrease in revenue from 2016, the private company with the most revenue in 2017 made more than double the company at the No. 2 spot.

Totaled together, the region's top 100 private companies generated $42.6 billion in 2017.

The top spot goes to Giant Eagle that made $8.9 billion in revenue with a 4.3 percent decrease from 2016, while 84 Lumber made $3.3 billion, a 15 percent increase.

Armada, Gateway Health and Guttman Energy Inc. round out the top five companies.
